KITCHEN SINKS & TYPES

The sink always been the kitchen's primary workstation, making the choice of bowl (configuration and material) and faucet a highly individual preference. When planning and upgrade, go for tough materials and big scale (deeper, broader bowls, higher-spouted faucets), both of which add up to convenience. The debate over kitchen sink materials centers on three key characteristics: durability, noise-dampening capacity, and ease of maintenance. Faucets come manufactured in a number of spout and handle styles and in an assortment of finishes, too: chrome, brass, nickel, stainless steel, and copper.
Undercounter Kitchen Sinks -
mounts directly to the underside of countertop material, making it easy to clean crumbs from the counter directly into the sink.
Self Rimming Kitchen Sinks - rounded corners, mounts on countertop material. Easiest type of installation.
Tile-Edge Kitchen Sinks - corners are squared off to more closely resemble countertop tiles. Mounts flush with tile and is sealed in with grout for easy cleanup.

AMERICAN STANDARD KITCHEN SINKS CONSTRUCTION

Stainless Steel
Industrial-strength appeal. 18-gauge, 18/10 American Standard stainless steel is resistant to dents, UV rays and germs.
Vitreous China
The world vitreous means "impervious to water". Glossy surface is as inhospitable to germs as you can get.
CORIAN
Corian is synonymous with simple. Seamless, one-piece color and pattern through and through. Corian comes with a 10-Year Limited Warranty.
AMERICAST
Thick as cast iron but half the weight. Heavy-duty without the heavy part.
Enameled Steel
Durable steel is formed into a vintage sink design. Baked-on enamel finish provides its old-school charm.

TYPES OF KITCHEN SINKS. HOW TO INSTALL A KITCHEN SINKS.

The most commonly used sinks are self-rimming sinks and surface-mounted sinks. The self-rimming sink has its own rim which is built into the sink itself, whereas the surface-mounted sink must be attached by a separate metal rim and tightening screws.
Both types are similar in installation and fairly easy to install. One type of sink which is slightly more difficult to install is the undermount, also known as recessed, sink. This sink eliminates the upper ring, so food and debris can be wiped directly into the sink. When installing an undermount sink, it is important to pay close attention to the size of the hole you are sawing to avoid water leaks. Read How to Install a Kitchen Sinks

HOW TO CLEAN KITCHEN SINKS

  • Rinse thoroughly after each use.

  • In the rare occurrence of stubborn stains, use abrasives or abrasive cleaners sparingly.

  • Use a soft cloth to wipe the product dry after each use.

  • Use a soft nylon brush on the tub bottom's Safeguard surface.

  • Do not use steel wool, wire brushes or abrasive sponge pads.

  • Be careful not to leave dirty dishes, coffee grounds, tea bags or other staining materials in contact w/ the enamel surface for long periods of time.
