BAR SINKS

Made of metal (stainless steel, copper, brass), cast iron, solid surface and fireclay, in a polished, satin or hammered finish; these sinks may be installed under the counter or as a self rimming drop-in sink. Undermount bar sinks provide a cleaner look and allow for easier cleaning of counter tops, but because of their position in the counter they do not have built-in drain boards.
Bar sink bowls offer a variety of depths (4", 4 1/2", 6", 6 1/2") depending on the model. Round sinks generally have a center drain. Larger round sinks, rectangular and square sinks have offset drains. In addition to the standard shapes (square, rectangular, oval and round), bar sinks are available in corner models and novelty shapes such as the cast iron Entertainer sink from Kohler.

TYPES OF SINKS. HOW TO INSTALL A KITCHEN SINK.

The most commonly used sinks are self-rimming sinks and surface-mounted sinks. The self-rimming sink has its own rim which is built into the sink itself, whereas the surface-mounted sink must be attached by a separate metal rim and tightening screws.
Both types are similar in installation and fairly easy to install. One type of sink which is slightly more difficult to install is the undermount, also known as recessed, sink. This sink eliminates the upper ring, so food and debris can be wiped directly into the sink. When installing an undermount sink, it is important to pay close attention to the size of the hole you are sawing to avoid water leaks.
